As a journalist I have written for most of the serious papers in the UK, and lots of magazines at home and abroad like Food and Wine, Condé Nast Traveller and Monocle. I once did something for Korean Vogue and, apparently, my work appears regularly in South African and Ireland - although no one asked.

I have also written two books: in the first, Just As Well I’m Leaving, I retraced the steps of one of the most

fascinating and eccentric figures from literary history, Hans Christian Andersen, on his epic 1840 tour of Europe. It’s a funny book, I think, and it got some lovely reviews but trouble was no one bought it.

My second book, Sacré Cordon Bleu, about my journey from cack-handed home cook to working in the kitchen of two Michelin starred Paris restaurants, by way of the world’s most famous cooking school, is published by Jonathan Cape. Excitingly, BBC Radio 4 chose it for their Book of the Week February 25-29.
